“It’s been a rough few years, and I’m ready for stability…”
Winnie found Heaven on Earth at eight years old, having ended up in an overcrowded county shelter. Soon a favorite with our volunteers, she was ready to find a more permanent home. But despite dozens upon dozens of adoption events, a forever home eluded her.
Then last summer she met a nice woman who was looking for a companion in retirement. They bonded and Winnie was finally adopted. But in December everything changed. A family emergency required Winnie’s adopter to leave town indefinitely and Winnie couldn’t go along. Two days after Christmas, she came back to Perry’s Place, despondent and confused.
Winnie now has a condition known as stomatitis, chronic inflammation of the mouth, which has been aggravated by the stress of sudden loss and change. She also has a tendency to overgroom when feeling anxious. Periodic vet visits and a peaceful, permanent home will be Winnie’s prescription for the stable life she craves. And deserves.
