Perry’s Place opens to the public!

On April 29, we held a formal rededication to celebrate opening the Perry MacFarlane Sanctuary to the public! This milestone was made possible by the tireless efforts of our dedicated staff and volunteers, as well as the extraordinary support of Best Friends, and will enable Heaven on Earth to save even more lives in the years ahead.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting concluded a program that was highlighted by personal remarks from our honorary board chair, Rachael MacFarlane, words of support from Best Friends’ NKLA Manager, Sheila Kouhkan, and greetings from representatives of Congressmembers Adam Schiff and Tony Cardenas and City Council member Paul Krekorian. CBS News was also on hand and aired a segment on that evening’s broadcast. Of course the real stars of the morning were the 160 cats currently in residence at Perry’s Place, including 65 underage kittens waiting eagerly for their chance to grow up and find loving homes.

Now we invite the entire Heaven on Earth family to spread the word and let friends and fellow cat lovers know that they can come to Perry’s Place to find their new best friend. We are open to the public Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 8pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6pm.

Perry’s Place residents enjoying the rededication

Since the first of the year, we have already taken in more than 150 cats and kittens from city shelters, giving them safe haven until we can place them in loving homes. With Perry’s Place open to the public, we expect that number to surpass 500 by year end. Kudos to our caretaker staff under the leadership of sanctuary manager Leandra Lawrence for their wonderful care of our cats and kittens, to our faithful volunteers for helping to socialize them, and to our adoption volunteers, led by Admission and Adoption Director Pamela Geisel and Adoption Coordinator Lauren Glazer, for placing them with their new families! And a warm welcome to Orly Kroh-Trifman, our new Adoption Counselor, who is eager to help you find your perfect match.

In the meantime, please save the date for a celebration for the entire Heaven on Earth family, with refreshments, raffles, tours, and the chance to connect with friends and felines alike. Sunday, May 22, 5-8 pm – hope to see many of you there!
