Taking part in PetSmart’s National Adoption Weekend

What do a North Hollywood couple, a Sunland family, vacation-bound Van Nuys residents and newlyweds from Valencia have in common? They all came to PetSmart stores during May’s National Adoption Weekend and now have new feline family members to love!

Heaven on Earth hosts weekly mobile adoption events at four area PetSmart stores – we are in Santa Clarita, Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys on Saturdays and Tujunga each Sunday. But during PetSmart’s nationwide adoption promotion, we tripled our efforts and set up shop at all four stores for three days in a row. So combined with the fact that Perry’s Place just opened to the public, May 13-15 was a big weekend for a whole lot of cats and people alike.

Brandon-PeydenBrandon and Payden made a day of it on Saturday, visiting store after store to be sure they found the perfect cat. They ended up returning to where they began, the Sherman Oaks PetSmart, because it turned out that the cat for them – 4-year-old Maverick – was the first cat they met.

Gail saw 1-year-old chocolatey-brown Godiva at the Tujunga PetSmart Friday night, came back the next afternoon with her husband and granddaughter, and a few hours later, Godiva was theirs. And that’s not all. Lucky Godiva can look forward to a little brother or sister because the family plans a return visit to Perry’s Place to adopt a kitten sometime soon.

For days, Christy and Robert had been eyeing 2-year-old Panchita in the adoption center at the Van Nuys PetSmart and decided Friday night it was high time to meet her. And meet her they did, spending more than an hour getting acquainted…ultimately deciding that the day they return from vacation next week is the day she will begin her new life in their waiting home.

Juliana and Jake spent the first Saturday of May getting married. They spent the second getting a cat. Original plan when they arrived at the Santa Clarita PetSmart was to adopt a kitten, but one look at petite 3-year-old Tiana changed all that, and she joined their household the next afternoon.

In total, 18 cats and kittens found new homes over the weekend. These include 3-month old Siamese siblings Feather, Fanny and Fleur; 2-month-old buddies Dewey and Tyra; and facebook star Harper, a 4-year-old white and brown tabby, who posed with his very best prairie dog imitation last week and ended up finding the home of his dreams on Sunday.
